Amid the ongoing chaos of the Narendra Modi-led central government’s demonetisation move, citizens on Monday spotted torn notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination in a drain in Rukmininagar area of Guwahati.
“Damaged currency notes of the banned denominations were found in a drain in Guwahati on Monday morning,” a witness said. Locals gathered alongside the drain after seeing heaps of torn notes in the drain. Later, they informed the police who took the pile in possession for further investigation.
It is reported that it is a chunk of black money which is estimated to be worth Rs 30 lakh. Locals even tried to find notes in good condition but their luck went in vain. Similar sightings have been reported from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as well ever since Prime Minister Modi announced demonetisation of high-value currency notes as a measure to curb black money in the country.
